Resquip proudly participated as a key sponsor to the 2026 Elephant Resource Management and Husbandry Workshop hosted by Chester Zoo.
This international event brought together expert elephant keepers and conservationists from across the globe to share best practices and advance the standards of care for these majestic animals.
The workshop maintained a critical focus on emergency safety procedures and protected contact management. Throughout the day, Chester Zoo facilitated sessions exploring elephant welfare, with a specific emphasis on preparing for the unexpected through “elephant down” recovery protocols.

Delegates participated in practical scenario training for recumbent elephants, practicing the specialised restraint and recovery techniques essential for ensuring both animal safety and keeper security in emergency situations.
A significant portion of the session was dedicated to a technical overview of the specialised equipment required for modern husbandry, such as protected contact barriers, chutes, and recovery kits.
Following the formal training, Resquip’s Teri England collaborated directly with Katie Morrison-Luke, Chester Zoo’s Assistant Team Manager of Elephants. Together, they examined the zoo’s current equipment resources, discussing how Resquip can further develop and refine rescue equipment to meet the evolving needs of future generations of keepers and their charges.
Resquip is honoured to support Chester Zoo’s mission of excellence in conservation and animal welfare. This partnership underscores our ongoing commitment to providing the global zoological community with the innovative tools and expertise necessary to improve outcomes for animals in crisis.
